It has begun.
As I mentioned at the start of the year, Kaiser Cat Central (my home office and studio) is in dire need of renovation. The house has sustained structural damage from water leakage (Belgium suffered a spate of floods in '22), deteriorating pipes, and foundation problems that have been building up for years. There's no easy way around it. Every sagging wall has to come out, the house is being stripped back part by part, and rebuilt from the ground up. This is going to be a full-year project.
The renovations are also one of the main reasons I've had to pause some of the more ambitious KCC series. As much as I'd rather be making content, this year has to be about fixing the house, managing contractors, coordinating the work, and keeping Flagmaker & Print running as my primary day job.
PHASE 1: THE STOCK ROOM
The first area that needed to be knocked out was the garage, which doubles as storage for KCC and a small workbench. Until two years ago it had been storing KCC merchandise for Patrons. Rain was effectively running straight through it, making it completely unusable. Getting this space watertight and functional again is the priority before anything else can move forward.
