Gemeinsam - Unserem Deutschen Kaiserreich Zum Schutze (Together, In Defense of the German Empire)
The Gemeinsam, or Together-poster was first proposed in 1929 at the height of a renewed colonial scramble. Tensions were high in the wake of the Hong Kong Communique, which led to the establishment of the Legation States. Countering the Syndicalist message of decolonization, Germany increased her posture as a pro-colonial power and guardian of the world balance. With the British Empire in total collapse, The Interior Ministry hoped to project an image of harmony and imperial stewardship through the Gemeinsam propaganda campaign. Images emerging from this campaign saw many depictions of a new German world order, later including the emerging Mitteleuropean nations. Notably absent were the other Central Powers, with whom relation had cooled in recent years.
The poster saw a large volume of prints and adaptations, making this original design rare in recent years. Most Gemeinsam posters now survive in imperial archives and private collections around the world.
The Kaiserreich Propaganda Poster returns! Five year after the release of his seminal 'Stark, Wachsam, Bereit' (Strong, Watchful, Prepared), Vincent returns to form with the second German Empire propaganda poster. His hand-crafted design is a reference to the British Commonwealth 'Together' poster series and depicts various German colonial and auxiliary forces.
