Originally developed in 1959 by renowned illustrator L.C. Meyenbecker and commissioned by the Royal Galleries of New York, the American Medieval Exhibition poster series has become synonymous with the era it depicts. Meyenbecker’s defining image - a knight of the Thirteen Kingdoms draped in the American banner, his squire presenting the sword to his outstretched hand - endures as one of the most powerful visual icons of medieval America.

Other posters in the American Medieval Exhibition series also portray the other great powers of the fourteenth century: the Cahokian Federation, the Mayan and Texican empires, the Redcloak Loyalists, and the Ming settlers of the Dragon Coast - each rendered with Meyenbecker's trademark monumental scale and romantic intensity.

Production of the original lithographs ceased in 1967, elevating the five posters to prized collector status. In recent years, renewed monarchist sentiment within the Union has driven a resurgence of interest. Newly archived in high-resolution and reproduced through offset and giclée printing, Meyenbecker’s vision now returns to public view - and has become a prized object adorning American homes all over the continent

For our American Kingdoms project (https://american-kingdoms.com/), KCC artists Vincent and Yana developed a new series of posters that play up the unusual iconography of a medieval American knight.

Each poster in this series is a homage to L.C Leyendecker, whose 'Boy Scouts of America' poster served as the primary inspiration for the American Kingdoms series.
